Our farm shares continued to be massive (by our standards) right up until the last week of the regular season. Now we have two winter shares to look forward to, one this weekend in time for thanksgiving and one in time for Christmas. We are still working our way through the last batch of rutabagas, winter squash and sweet potatoes. The giant blue Hubbard squash sits waiting to be made of use.
We all worried about the rutabagas, having memories from our childhood of their bitterness, but of course they are not. In fact they are quite sweet and wonderful baked, roasted or mashed, especially mixed with mashed potatoes.
